This is a compilation of information I have put together from various sources to help HSC Geography students with their studies in the unit of work called Ecosystems at Risk. I am slowly trying to go through and reference the material wherever I can remember as I rushed to put these together.
HSIE Teachers - HSC Geography: Ecosystems at risk. Home Ecosystem Management > > > > ... Case studies of ecosystems • Case study 1: Intertidal wetlands: ... The selected ecosystems at risk could include areas such as coastal dunes, freshwater wetlands, inter-tidal wetlands, coral reefs, arid areas, alpine areas, rainforests, temperate forests
Intertidal wetlands: - develop in coastal areas subject to periodic inundation by salty water - mangrove wetlands occur in intertidal zones along tropical and subtropical coastlines, usually between 25oN and 25oS latitude. - contain plants adapted to life in saline conditions for example, mangroves, seagrass.

It is only in the last 30 years that the value of coastal dune ecosystems has been recognised and the management of these unique places considered important.
Data from seven case study ecosystems based around Europe were used for this study ... In most realms, the larger the case study, the greater the risk, as more activities introducing pressures are likely to be found, and potentially impacting the ecosystem services being supplied in that region. However, the opposite pattern was found in ...
The negative nature and rate of change that is occurring within the Great Barrier Reef(GBR) is largely due to human induced activity. Coral reefs are vulnerable to the slightest of human impacts and the frequency in which we are doing so has dramatically increased over the years, increasing it to a global scale.
Increased attention to environmental issues highlights the fragility and importance of estuaries and brings to the forefront the need for an up-to-date assessment of techniques.
